The castile pumpkin is characterized by having a very thick shell, fleshy orange pulp and seeds inside. There are different pumpkins of different sizes, shapes and colors such as: green, with white or orange spots.

 

The Castilian pumpkin was one of the first pumpkins to be transported to Europe, so it owes its name to the Queen of Castile, who enjoyed its flavor so much that she decided to name it this way.

 

All parts of the pumpkin are edible and cover the nutritional requirements in a balanced diet. It is rich in protein, omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, vitamin A and C, iron, potassium, magnesium and zinc. These nutrients are present in both its pulp and its seeds.
