The mushroom has a hemispherical or flat cap and a cylindrical stem, usually white. The mushroom is consumed both fresh and canned, raw or cooked, as part of salads, fried or roasted and as a garnish in many dishes and even sauces are made.

Mushrooms are low in calories so they are recommended in low-calorie diets. They also provide protein, vitamins, especially B vitamins, minerals and fiber. The mushroom is considered to be a good antidepressant and anticarcinogenic.
