Breadcrumbs are stale bread, usually dried for several days, which has been finely chopped by means of a grater. Its floury texture is used in the preparation of different dishes and foods in the form of breading, breading or gratin with the intention of providing a hard crust when frying.

It is more common to see breadcrumbs originating from white bread because they are more susceptible to hardening. Bread crumbs can be stored in a dry place for several months.
