The pinguica is a small apple-shaped berry that grows on bushes that can measure up to three meters in height. In Mexico they grow wild in the arid regions of the country, their leaves and stems are similar to oak. It grows all year round and bears fruit only in the months of September and October.

It is used as a diuretic for weight loss and to relieve respiratory diseases. Its flavor is sweet, with a slight peach note. The fresh fruit can be used in jams and smoothies; while the powder is ideal for infusion.
